Netflix Nixes Write for Us
Netflix Nixes Write for Us – The platform’s business-free Basic plan, which costs $9.99 per month, is no longer available on the company’s website for new or rejoining members as of Wednesday. Customers currently on the plan will not be affected unless they change plans or cancel.
The current cheapest option for subscribers will be the $6.99 per month ad-supported plan, which the company introduced in November. According to the Netflix website, it allows HD viewing of all but a few movies and shows, the ability to stream on two devices, and access to unlimited mobile games.
Ad-Supported Netflix Plans To Increase Revenue
Executives have praised the new ad-supported plan in the past, calling it a significant driver of revenue.
“In the US, it’s actually above our standard plan,” CFO Spencer Adam Neumann said regarding plan revenue on the company’s first-quarter earnings call in April.

Other options are Netflix’s standard and premium plans, which run no ads and allow users to download content and share their accounts with one or two people outside their household, but they cost more at $15.49 and $19.99 per month, respectively. The Premium plan also allows Ultra HD viewing on up to four devices and downloads on up to six.
Netflix is the latest major entertainment company to introduce advertising to its streaming service to increase revenue and profits. Earlier this year, the company cracked down on account sharing between households after seeing subscriber growth stagnant, blaming it partly on users sharing their login information with friends and other families.
Reed Hastings, the former CEO of Netflix, admitted last year that the company was late in embracing advertising focused on competition from big tech companies. Other streaming platforms, including HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock, and Paramount+, already have cheaper ad-supported options, while Disney (DIS) has been actively developing one for the Disney+ streaming platform.
Shares of Netflix were nearly flat Wednesday after the announcement. It’s up more than 60% so far this year.
