What is the price of Xbox Game Pass Core?
The Xbox Game Pass Core pricing was recently announced after it was announced that the green console’s Live Gold subscription plan was being discontinued in favor of this new offering.
Microsoft, the tech giant behind the console, has announced that Xbox Live Gold will be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core starting September 14. Game Pass Core will cost $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year, including access to the Xbox Live multiplayer network, “a catalog of over 25 high-quality games,” and exclusive deals for members.
Xbox Game Pass Core Launch Collection includes Among Us, Descenders, Dishonored 2, Doom Eternal, Fable Anniversary, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, Grounded, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Wars 2, and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Man Falling Flat, The Inside, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Psychonauts 2, State of Decay 2, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, and more to come.
Existing Xbox Live Gold members will automatically become Game Pass Core members on September 14, with no price change. They will also have instant access to the new game library.
Speaking of which, Games with Gold will end on September 1. However, players can still access any Xbox One games they previously redeemed through Games with Gold if they remain a Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate member.
What is Xbox Game Pass Core, and what is its price?
Microsoft is killing Xbox Live little by little. The company is replacing the Xbox Live portion of its subscription offering with a new tier of Game Pass called Game Pass Core. It’s more affordable than Game Pass Console and Ultimate but has some limitations to justify the lower cost. Limitations aside, it’s a solid offering for those on a budget that lets you get into the Game Pass ecosystem without breaking the bank too much.
What is Game Pass Core?
Game Pass replaces Xbox Live Gold in Microsoft’s subscription offerings. Instead of getting two different services and mixing them up, Microsoft is getting everything under the Game Pass banner, which makes much more sense from a marketing perspective.
As the alternative to Xbox Live, this service includes access to the entire online multiplayer experience on Xbox. Game Pass Console is more expensive but doesn’t include access to multiplayer games on Xbox, so, in that sense, Game Pass Core is a good deal.
Of course, there’s a reason why Game Pass Core costs less — it doesn’t come with the entire library of Game Pass games. Instead, you get a curated selection of over 25 games, with new games added two or three times a year (most likely, some games will be removed, though Microsoft didn’t get into that).
How much is Game Pass Core?
It will cost the same as the previous membership because Game Pass Core replaces Xbox Live Gold. Access to Game Pass Core costs $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year.
It’s a good deal compared to Game Pass Ultimate, which is $16.99 monthly. However, you only get access to about 25 games, while Game Pass Ultimate gives you access to hundreds of games in the entire Game Pass library, new games on day one, and access to EA Play. It comes down to your budget: does it make sense to spend the extra money on Ultimate or save a few bucks a month on Game Pass Core?
